"Libby"
My name is Libby! I am a very happy, energetic, friendly and bouncing Dalmatian!
I was born just outside Blackpool as one of five puppies (and the only girl!!!), and settled into my human home at eight weeks and have been pampered ever since.
People are generally attracted to me because they say I'm "pretty", so naturally, my looks allow me to get away with anything.
I was sent to Royvon training about the time I turned six months because I was starting to take over my own obedience and behaviour decisions. I like to do all the normal and fun stuff that dogs of my age, breed and sound temperament like to do - jump, play bite, pull on the lead, bite on my lead, help with the household chores by trying to get in the dishwasher and tumble dryer..(you know, all the normal stuff).
I am so friendly, however, that it might be just a matter of time before I meet a very unfriendly dog or person, at which time I may not be able to control my manners and may find myself in some real trouble.
My Training:
My Trainer's name was Gwyneth. Gwyneth finds me a real handful (but she also thinks I'm her star pupil!). We have so much fun together, but she's very firm with me, in a respectful way - for instance, she knows I have a short attention span, so she'll reward a good training session with quick bouts of play before calming me down again. She knows I love to play, but is careful to remind me that she's still in charge. She said it's important that my family not only be strict and consistent with my obedience sessions at home, but also that they instil a behaviour management programme in the house. I need to learn that obedience (and desired behaviour) is expected at all times, not just during training. High rewards will always follow - and since I am sensitive and motivated by almost anything, including food (CHICKEN!), touch, voice, play and any form of attention in general, I am easy to please and can be very willing to please!
I am still a bit of a puppy, so it may take some time to settle into a whole new routine at home, but I have learned a lot and am perfectly capable of showing-off.
I'm Back Home Now:
I've settled back home really well and we are enjoying my training. I'm doing well walking to heel on her lead, directional turns, recall, sitting and down on command and very well at my down stay. My owner is really pleased with my progress and she is making sure that the obedience is followed through in everything at home - (she says she could do with giving up work and just spending the time with me - wouldn't that be great!?!).
I still love my visitors, be they human or other dogs, and although I still find it difficult to contain my enjoyment by not jumping, I'm learning!!!
My owner says that I have calmed down considerably and am a pleasure to have around! Well done Gwyneth and thank you.
