How We Train Your Dog

It is a common misconception that a dog's brain works much like a human brain, however the rules of communication between us are far from similar. Once you've channelled into a dog's way of learning and understand the procedures for effective communication, your lives will be forever changed! Here's how we do it:

Programme

Royvon offers the luxury of several training options for different levels of learning. All courses are under the direct supervision of highly experienced owner and trainer, Darren James. Our methods are based on consistency and reward techniques. No harsh, correctional discipline is ever used.

These are not basic obedience courses. They are comprehensive obedience courses. Your dog will be taught to be under full control both on and off the lead, and as with life outside of our controlled sessions, natural distractions are used to make the training as realistic as possible.

3-Week and 10-Day Courses

The 3 week and the 10-day course are equally effective residential training options with the same guaranteed set standard. The 10-day course was designed to accommodate those wishing to spend less time away from their companions. However, it is only offered to dogs between the ages of 8 months and 2 years, as dogs between these ages are better suited to a more intensive programme.

In either course, your dog is allocated to one personal trainer and when the bond has been achieved, the trainer teaches your dog effective communication and procedures. This progresses on a day-to-day basis and the number of training sessions is determined by the course chosen.

Each session is 20 minutes long, where the majority of learning is focused on the communications procedures and ending with a bonus reward of continued learning while at play. Our 3 week course includes a minimum of 3 training session per day, given more as required; and our intensive, 10-day course is 6 sessions per day, more labour intensive and carried out over a longer day . Both courses cover a 6, consecutive day work week followed by a 7th day of exercise with our kennel staff in and around our Centre facilities.

The rest of your dog's non-training day is enjoyed at your pre-planned discretion. Our staff are available 7am - 8pm every day, including Sundays, to oversee your dog's complete care, and answer any questions you may having during the training process. Extra grooming, specialised walks and any other personal attention you may desire for your dog are also available at an additional rate. We are happy to cater to your requests while your dog is with us.

Your Expectations - Our Set Standard

Following is an inclusive, but not exclusive list of our guaranteed set standard behaviour modifications you and your dog will learn while under our care:

At the end of either course, you will have a full, off-lead demonstration of your dog's newly learned obedience skills as outlined above. It is then expected to have owners spend 3 hours at the school following this demonstration in order to learn the communication and tuition procedures necessary to continue the successes in your new life together. You will also be given with information and advice for your dog's aftercare. We will provide detailed notes before, during and after the training process has been initiated, and encourage attendance at our free follow-up session, which takes place 3 weeks-2 months following the conclusion of the course to ensure that everything is on target.

The Demonstration

Following the conclusion of the training course, and prior to your tuition, you will be presented and talked through a full, off-lead demonstration. In addition to the obedience set standard drills, you will also notice your dog demonstrating.

Many owners worry about maintaining the well-rounded attitude, and more so, the attachment they witness their dog having with their trainer. But, please do not let this be a concern, your dog has bonded with you and will continue to bond with you. Training will only enhance your relationship together!

Your Tuition

The purpose of your tuition is to teach you your dog's new communication procedures. Led by your dog's allocated trainer in one of two of our specifically designed indoor arenas, you will first learn the utmost importance of body language, and then its association with your dog's new commands. Understanding the holistic approach to communicating with your dog is the key to your continued success. Expect this process to take up to 3 hours.

The Aftercare

Our Aftercare is yet another feature that makes our programme so unique. We are often reminded that even though our customers know it's an available service to them, it's not truly appreciated until the time.

You are given a personal telephone number of your trainer and instructor and are encouraged to call as often as necessary. We'll remind you at your tuition that we'd much rather hear from you daily to discuss the smallest detail than weekly, or longer with greater issues.

Outside of the telephone support, we also encourage attendance at our free follow-up session. This takes place 3-8 weeks after the registered Royvon training has concluded.

Royvon will be available to help fine tune your handling knowledge and skills for the lifetime of your dog. This is our ongoing commitment to you.

Following are tips to assure that your dog is working as well for you as for us:

Progress Reporting

Another one of the features that make the Royvon training programme so unique is the thorough updates provided by all the members of the Royvon team caring for your dog during the training process. There are several methods as to how the progress reports are handled: -

Whilst telephone is the best form of communication, given the nature of our trainer’s field work, it is often difficult to have a spontaneous, uninterrupted connection. Whilst still a valid means for updates, Royvon offers alternative options for convenience and source of record for every stage of the process.

The Progress Reporting function accessible on the Home page of our web site will provide a daily score for every exercise completed during the programme.  There are 20 exercises in total, with several exercises practiced at any given time.  Although dogs will learn at differing levels, all dogs must be proficient in every exercise prior to the demonstration.

More personalised detailed emails and posted letters will also arrive every 2-3 days for the duration of the training.  How you prefer to receive these updates will be discussed following your dog’s booking into the training course.  In addition to reports of your dog’s progress, further information regarding your continued successes at home will be included within each letter to help you prepare for your reunion.
