Dogs and Technology Unite for Entrepreneur of the Year
Royvon Dog Training School's Darren James named as co-finalist for Wales' leading Information Communications Technology event award
11/04/05: Darren James, Managing Director of Royvon Dog Training Schools was recognised as one of two co-finalists for the prestigious Technology Wales 2005 (TWO5) Information Communications Technology "Entrepreneur of the Year" award.
This award identifies and recognises the achievements of outstanding Welsh entrepreneurs within successful growing dynamic businesses. Entry for the award is open to any individual based in Wales who has launched a local technology-based or related business initiative in 2004. Darren James and his unique, very successful business model was nominated by Mr. Rick Marengo, Director of AXLR8, who worked closely with Darren for the necessary intra-extranet database customer relationship management (CRM) applications.
"Darren has generated growing exports for Wales and jobs in Merthyr Tydfil by providing a great service to customers as a recognised dog behaviour authority," Rick was quoted as saying as part of his nomination entry.
In addition to Rick's exceptionally talented and innovative team at AXLR8, Darren also worked with a number of other local specialist organisations including Venture Wales for consulting, Business for Business for internet marketing and FutureGateIT for systems. Together what was created is the use of technology that allows Darren to drive marketing, increase sales and control the growth and administration. Most importantly, however, is what it does for the customer – Royvon is able to provide personalised reports on the daily progress of their dog's obedience training without sacrificing the time the trainer needs to spend effectively training the dog.
Royvon Dog Training Schools is a residential programme that controls the environment during the time a dog is being trained, therefore putting the focus on training and enabling natural distractions to be introduced without disturbing the process. The concept is for training to be associated with positive attention, thus an enjoyable experience for the dog. Included in the course is training for the dog's owner to ensure that the proper methods are understood and exercised in the home environment. Given the number of benefits of residential training over other obedience options, there are very few disadvantages. However, one often unattractive feature is the need to leave one's beloved pet in the care of the school for the duration of the training. Although Royvon encourages dog owners to take advantage of the opportunity by planning a holiday around the time the dog is being trained, it is still an unfortunate obstacle for a formula with proven results.
"In order to alleviate any owner anxiety during training, as well as prepare them for their role as their dog's handler, it was necessary to be creative with the development of our communication systems," Darren says. "There is so much information to share, and because every dog is different given their breed, age, temperament, history and relationship with their family, it is all too easy to overwhelm our customers, not to mention our staff. Today, with the careful integration and organisation of CRM and administrative systems, our customers' expectations are set from the moment they book a course, and they are updated and educated on a daily basis throughout the process in a way that is custom to the profile of their dog, but not consuming to the staff. And, tomorrow, the reports they receive will likely include real time images of their dog accessed over the Internet…to mention but one of the innovative solutions we are brainstorming to address the growing needs of the future."
Technology Wales states that the rapid technology growth in the world today demonstrates the need for every business based in Wales to understand the role and scope of emerging technologies and how to utilise these in the marketplace. This one-day event will bring the most innovative and cutting edge technologies to Wales, creating an information and educations platform to identify business requirements and how to apply these solutions to reach business goals. And, as companion dog ownership is on the rise, so are the responsibilites that go along with owning one. Royvon combines a successful, much needed service with the technologies to provide the necessary communication sensitivities to the customer.
